This special distinction of The Polish Bioinformatics Society was awarded for the first time in the 15-year history of the Society.
During the General Assembly of the Society, honorary membership was awarded to three outstanding Polish bioinformatics. All three - prof. Jacek Błażewicz, prof. Wiesław Nowak (Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun) and prof. Jerzy Tiuryn (University of Warsaw) are among the pioneers of Polish bioinformatics and the founders of the Society. For many years they have been popularizing bioinformatics in Poland and worldwide.
Prof. Jacek Błażewicz is the Director of the European Center for Bioinformatics and Genomics at the Poznan University of Technology, as well as the Director of the Institute of Computing Science. Since 2010, he has been a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In his research work, he focuses on areas related to DNA sequencing, analysis and prediction of RNA and protein structures, as well as the theory of algorithms and parallel computing.
Prof. Jacek Błażewicz is an honorary doctorate holder at the University of Siegen (Germany).
